A couple of weeks ago, we discovered that we have been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag Award.
A tremendous amount of work went into achieving this mark over the last 2 years. Our Eco Council, led by Miss Bendall, have worked their little bamboo socks off. The application alone was many, many hours of work!
The Eco Schools committee were particularly impressed with the children’s commitment to litter picking and how the Eco Council were responsible for each part of the application. They also liked how the school curriculum highlighted the importance of taking care of the environment and living more sustainably.
Miss Bendall, a bit of an unstoppable force, is keen to reapply next year to achieve the next level of the award.
Our children are so passionate about environment and sustainability and we have already made some steps towards our next application:
- We have had solar panels installed over the holidays
- We have cleared a small garden space at the front of the school to plant more pollinators
- Mr Oak Tree is just the start of tree planting on the small field and we will be looking for grants to support with this
- We have reached out to Alun Griffiths and are excited to meet with their team in September about a social values project
- We are researching charity clothing banks that we could have installed on site to serve the school and local community to reduce waste that goes into landfill

You should see the children manoeuvre these around the track… reaching top speeds akin to a lethargic sloth and taking the corners as nimbly as the Titanic. The racing teams McLaren Oracle Red Bull Racing Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team have nothing on us.
Turns out slow and steady really can win the race when the only vehicles in the race are Little Tikes Cosy Coupes.
We are always looking to expand our fleet so, if you have a Coupe you would like to rehome, look no further. We will ensure it fulfils its race car dreams.

Thank you for asking. One of the jobs is washing! A loooooooot of washing.
The washing machine we have at school is the size of a thimble so to ensure we can get through the whole lot before the end of August, it gets spread far and wide across Weston. Some of our staff will have very jazzy washing lines over the next few weeks 😂
We have also found and washed many Y6 leavers hoodies and any branded lost property which will be kept as spares or given away to anyone who needs it. Grey seems to be the colour of choice if you are going to loose your hoodie!

Earlier this year, the rather marvellous Miss Walton was contacted by the equally marvellous Tash at Welcome Break.
Welcome Break raise huge amounts of money for charities and good causes each year. They invited us to write a bid for some grant funding. Miss Walton fired up the laptop and set to work completing an application. If you don’t ask then you don’t get, so we asked for the maximum of £15,000 to install some new play equipment on our school field.
We were AMAZED when Welcome Break got in touch and offered to give us £8,348 🤩
We were STOKED! 🙌
Then our amazing PTA got involved, and said the plans sounded far too good not to be delivered in full, so they have topped us up to £20,000!!
In the Autumn Term, the children can now expect:
- a new climbing frame on the small field near the sandpit
- a new trim trail, running along the small field near the pathway
- some parallel bars for spinning on 😵💫
- a chin-up bar for strength 💪
- welly storage for EVERY class, so that our fields can be unlocked 🔓 over winter
- our former garden area will be treated and bark-chipped, creating a calm space to enjoy nature and/or a good book
We are SO grateful to Welcome Break, Miss Walton and the PTA for coming together and making this massive dream a reality.
